Event Photography in Grimsby | Nightlife & DJ Coverage at The Decades of House (2nd May 2026)

On Saturday 2nd May 2026, The Decades of House landed at Docks Academy for a daytime to night celebration of 40 years of house music. For me, it also marked something more personal.

This was my first time shooting at Docks Academy in over a year, having previously worked at the venue. Coming back, this time purely to capture the night through event photography, felt like a full circle moment.

Returning to Docks Academy After a Year Away

Having spent time working inside Docks Academy in the past, I already knew the space, and the lighting quirks. Stepping back in after a year away, with a camera in hand instead of working behind the scenes, gave me a completely different perspective.

There is something about returning to a familiar venue that sharpens your eye. You are not figuring things out, you are refining them.

Every corner of the room felt familiar, but the challenge became pushing the shots further. The aim was to capture the night in a way that felt bigger, more immersive, and true to the scale of the event.

Club and DJ Photography at The Decades of House

This edition of The Decades of House brought together a stacked lineup, headlined by Hacienda legend Graeme Park, alongside Dean Baker, Flynn Stokes, Andy Moody, and Milo.

Despite a last minute lineup change, the energy never dipped. From 4PM through to 11PM, the venue transformed into a full house music time capsule, moving through decades of sound with a crowd that stayed locked in from start to finish.

From a photography perspective, this was a perfect mix of club photography and DJ photography, capturing both the artists and the crowd that drive the atmosphere.

Capturing Nightlife Photography in Grimsby

Photographing nightlife events like this is where everything comes together.

For this shoot, I focused on telling the full story of the night through:

• Crowd energy, including packed dancefloors and real reactions

• Lighting and mood, using strobes, lasers, and contrast

• DJ connection, capturing the relationship between artist and audience

• Authentic moments that define the night

Knowing the venue meant I could anticipate moments before they happened. That includes drops hitting, lighting changes, and crowd reactions building.
