Red Rum Club Live at Docks Academy, Grimsby , January 27, 2026

Red Rum Club returned to Grimsby on Tuesday night for their third performance at Docks Academy, marking another chapter in an ongoing relationship between the band and the venue. Taking place as part of Independent Venue Week, the show highlighted both the importance of grassroots spaces and the value of artists continuing to return to them as their careers grow.

From the moment they took to the stage, the band looked comfortable and assured. The sound in the room was warm and well balanced, with the trademark trumpet lines by Joe the Blow, cutting through cleanly without overpowering the rest of the mix. It remains a defining part of Red Rum Club’s identity, but one that felt particularly effective in this setting, adding texture and lift to songs that already thrive on melody.

The set moved smoothly between older favourites and more recent material, with each track landing confidently. There was a clear sense of familiarity between band and audience, with many in attendance singing along throughout the night. Rather than relying on big moments or exaggerated crowd interaction, the band allowed the songs to do the work, which suited the atmosphere of the evening.

Between songs, frontman Fran referenced the band’s history with the venue, noting that this was their third time playing Docks Academy and describing it as one of their favourite places to perform. The comment was met with a strong response from the crowd and reinforced the feeling that this show was more than just another date on the tour.

Vocals were delivered with clarity and control, while the rhythm section remained tight throughout, giving the set a steady momentum without feeling rushed. Slower moments were given room to breathe, while the more upbeat tracks brought a natural lift to the room, particularly as the set reached its latter stages.

By the time the set came to a close, it was clear why Red Rum Club continue to resonate so strongly in a live setting. The Grimsby show was not about spectacle, but about connection, consistency and confidence. As Independent Venue Week continues to highlight the importance of local venues, nights like this underline exactly why they matter.
